Creative Arts Therapies

Specialised music therapy and other creative therapies can be highly effective for some pupils.  An initial assessment phase will be conducted to determine whether music therapy or other creative therapies are suitable and likely to benefit each pupil.

These therapies are not part of our standard core curriculum but are funded from the school's budget where it is specified as a required provision in a pupil’s Education, Health and Care Plan (EHCP).

Upon request from families and with the agreement of the Class Teacher, we may facilitate access to music therapy or other creative therapies delivered by a qualified independent therapist, provided this does not impact the core provision for other pupils.  The aims will be to provide a professional, ethical, and evidence-based creative therapy service within the school community, adhering to the Code of Ethics and Practice of relevant professional bodies (e.g., the British Association for Music Therapy, Health and Care Professions Council).  And to offer therapeutic interventions that support the emotional, social, and cognitive development of pupils with special educational needs, in line with individual EHCP outcomes.

Therapists will collaborate closely with Class Teachers and other professionals to ensure that therapy programmes are tailored to each pupil’s individual learning targets and EHCP outcomes.  Comprehensive procedures will be in place for referral, obtaining parental consent, assessment, documentation, reporting, and evaluation, with all steps consistently followed.
